Amazing doctor/ surgeon, gives needed information, discusses issues/ needs. After trying injections , I ended up needing surgery and he is the best and even employees at the hospital all know how great he is. It has been one week after Dr Pigeon performed 3 level neck fusion on myself. I had intense pain going from my neck down to my fingers for 3 months. I am athletic and love to work on projects so being so disabled was so depressing. After trying pt and shots it was decided that surgery was needed. 3 days after surgery 80% of the stinging pain went away and very little pain in neck. Everyday since I get better. Dr Pigeon preformed surgery on my neck in two locations at two different times and did an amazing job. Even after 6 years post surgery all the metal implants he put in still look great on x-ray and MRI results. I recently have been having trouble with pain again and Dr Pigeon was able to identify and explain where the new pain is coming from and recommend some physical therapy to help fix the issue. 02/22 Met with Dr. Pigeon regarding need for possible back surgery. Gave me a physical exam to determine how my mobility was impacted. Took X-rays with multiple views. Showed us X-rays and discussed issues and why surgery was only option since other treatments had failed. Discussed complications, outcome, surgical procedure, hospital stay and recovery. His assistant Beth meet with me prior to and after my appointment with him. Have me a detailed packet of necessary info, how to schedule some other necessary preop appointments, pre and postop info. Very impressed with them. UPDATE: Back surgery 03/22. Had home health and PT postop. No complications. Follow up appointments with X-rays went smoothly. Attentive to my concerns and questions. Dr Pigeon explained my back issues in detail as well as the procedures necessary to correct them. That included a laminectomy Fusions and removal of one disc and replacement with a spacer. He took his time. 6 hours to complete the surgery. And he will be coming in the second day to inspect the sites and dress the incisions again himself. He is a very caring and dedicated surgeon specializing in spinal surgery. Obviously tops in his field. And I have friends that share that opinion! Highly recommend Dr Pigeon at Orthopaedic Associates of West Florida. He works out of enterprise rd (new office. And Morton Plant office and Hospital. I was comprehensively checked out with physical exam, ex-rays and doctor reviewed recent MRI. Everything was explained so I could clearly understand my worn out back. I’m going with physical therapy because surgery is NOT recommended because recovery time 6-8 months and doctor said I could end up with comparable or better results from therapy and some weight loss. I went to the OAWF with some trepidation to see Richard Pigeon MD, PhD, and his staff. That quickly changed when I met his professional and gracious nurse who immediately put me at ease, stating what to expect throughout the visit. The radiologist was equally kind and caring as she explains positioned me for many X-rays. Meeting Dr Pigeon was the highlight of my visit. Dr Richard Pigeon has the highest possible ethical character when it comes to his patients. He is honest and very thorough. It may not be exactly what you want to hear, but count on it being on spot. He takes the time to explain the different procedures and possible outcomes while showing you the MRI image slices from different views. Doctor Richard Pigeon and his staff are incredibly capable! I went to see the doctor with multiple issues throughout my Lumbar spine that included a horrible sciatica. My pain started early June. Went to the ER due to the excruciating pain in my back, upon release the hospital recommended "another" Orthopaedic Surgeon. After pain pills, then epidural shots over a month a friend of mine suggested that I should get a 2nd opinion which led me to Dr Pigeon. Best decision I could have made. Within 2 visits he advised surgery was needed due to the damage to the nerves going to my leg. Here I sit 3 weeks after surgery pain free. Dr. Pigeon has performed three operations on my back. No one else will work on my back! Why three operations, the first one addressed a pain situation at that time. Dr. Pigeon at that time informed me as I aged more surgical correction will be required. He is a doctor that will not say, well lets try this! I saw him for my upper back and after tests run..he recommended injections not surgury. Dr. Pigeon did a couple of kyphoplasty procedures on my grandma and was able to give her a full recovery. Before, she had sciatica and couldn't walk and now the sciatica is gone and she can walk with the aid of a walker! I definitely recommend going to Dr. Pigeon for any orthopaedic issues. I have been seen by many specialist and surgeons on my issue with my neck. After meeting with Dr. Pigeon and reviewing my options, he gave me a full explanation of my pre & post surgery requirements and what's in store for the next several months.
